Icebreaker Worksheet — Social Media Smarts LearnU by DeKalb Public Services

This worksheet kicks off the Social Media Smarts workshop by getting students thinking and talking about their own social media habits — before any teaching begins.

Part A (Individual) guides each student through 5 quick questions on their own: which app they opened first that morning, how much time they spend on social media daily, whether they've ever regretted a post, whether they could go a week without social media, and one word that describes their relationship with it.

Part B (Group) brings the table together to compare answers, spot patterns, and start a real conversation about what they noticed.

The goal isn't to test anyone — it's to warm the room up, surface honest answers, and give the facilitator a read on where the group is before diving into the content.

We work locally, partner locally, and design our programs with DeKalb residents in mind. Every service, workshop, and initiative is shaped by real experiences and real barriers faced in our community.

As a nonprofit we exists to make systems easier to navigate and support easier to access — without the complexity.
